CAKE COLLECTION & CARE

These instructions are primarily for single-tier and custom cakes collected from Red Robin Pantry. Cake Shed bakes and desserts may have their own storage instructions depending on the product.

Your cake will be chilled and boxed ready for collection. Please follow the guidance below to help it arrive safely and taste its best.

CARRYING YOUR CAKE

Always support your cake from underneath the box, keeping both hands beneath the base.

Please don't carry a cake box by holding or squeezing the sides. The box itself isn't designed to support the weight of the cake, and pressure against the sides can also damage the decoration.

Keep the box level while carrying it and place it down gently on a flat surface.

TRANSPORTING YOUR CAKE

Your cake must remain completely flat during transport. The safest place in a car is usually the boot, on a clean, level surface. The boot should be empty so that nothing can move, fall or roll onto the cake during the journey. A flat passenger footwell can also work well.

Please don't place the cake on a car seat or transport it on someone's lap. Car seats are angled, making cakes more likely to slide or tilt, while body heat can quickly soften buttercream and ganache when a cake is held on your lap.

During the warmer months, use air conditioning where possible and keep the car cool throughout the journey. Avoid leaving the cake in a parked car, even for a short time in warm weather.

Drive carefully, particularly around corners and when braking, and keep the cake box level when removing it from the vehicle.

IF YOUR CAKE ISN'T BEING SERVED THE SAME DAY

Please let me know when ordering if your cake will be collected before the day it is being served.

This can affect how I design and finish your cake. Fresh fruit, edible flowers and some other decorations may not be suitable when a cake needs to be stored overnight or for longer, so I may recommend alternatives that will keep your cake looking its best.

I'll advise you on the appropriate storage for your particular cake when you collect it.

KEEPING YOUR CAKE COOL

Buttercream and chocolate ganache naturally soften as they become warm, so keep your cake somewhere cool and away from direct sunlight, radiators and other sources of heat.

During hot weather, your cake may need to be refrigerated. Storage requirements can also vary depending on the fillings and decorations used, so please follow any specific instructions provided with your order.

BEFORE SERVING

Buttercream and ganache cakes are best enjoyed at serving temperature rather than straight from the fridge. When chilled, buttercream and ganache are much firmer; allowing the cake to warm before serving gives it a softer texture and allows the flavours to come through properly.

Larger cakes can take several hours to reach a good serving temperature, particularly if they have been thoroughly chilled.

I'll advise you on timing where necessary, taking into account the size and style of your cake and the conditions on the day.

FRESH DESSERTS

Fresh desserts such as cheesecakes, tiramisù and other chilled desserts must remain refrigerated until they are ready to be served.

If you're collecting fresh desserts, please make sure you have suitable chilled storage available at your destination and minimise the amount of time they spend unrefrigerated during transport.

LEFTOVERS

After cutting, cover any exposed cake as well as possible to prevent it drying out and store it appropriately for the fillings used.

Most cakes can also be portioned, wrapped well and frozen, which is a good option if you have leftovers that won't be eaten within the next few days.

PLEASE REMEMBER

Once a cake has been collected, it is the customer's responsibility to transport and store it safely. Red Robin Pantry cannot take responsibility for damage caused after collection through incorrect handling, transport or storage.

If you're unsure about transporting, storing or serving your order, please ask when you collect it and I'll be happy to advise you.
